The development of grand prix sails has lead to higher aspect ratios and increasing large roach profiles.

New materials and stiffer mast sections have allowed sailmakers to use large square headed Mainsails to great effect. The next stage in development to meet the IRC rule is larger roach profile in the upper leech of the headsails.
